Restrictions Can Grow You

Updated: Jul 29, 2022

Yesterday was a very long day! I don't remember what I did, but I kept myself busy doing things. Long story short, I was starving. Last week I made a deal with myself that I would only eat food I cooked during the week. Up until yesterday, I was fulfilling my agreement with myself. I could feel my ribs touching, and a voice said, "go get those four wings and side for $6.99. You have been doing well, so reward yourself." I heard it, agreed, and started driving to the restaurant (Tru Soulfood). I was almost there when I thought about a video I watched earlier in the library. In the video, a Shaolin Monk was discussing the practices of Monks. One thing that registered with me was concerning restrictions. The monk discussed restricting yourself from certain things to build your will and inner strength. While driving, I could hear and see the video and immediately made a U-turn. It resulted in one of the tastiest salads I have made.

Cooking is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable experiences of life. It is creating something from scratch, following a recipe. It is the equivalent of walking a trail or climbing a mountain to me.

My Thoughts: Restrictions can lead to freedom.
